The works BRM team are searching for ..........inspiration and a new car designer

Current private practice times appear to indicate that......

only half of the available engine cylinders are actually working,
or the handbrake is locked on
or the 500kg of lead missing from the local church roof is secreted somewhere within our chassis.
Also, the tyres provided by our sponsor are in fact rejected remoulds from the Trabant factory and are manufactured with a large proportion of recycled bacon fat.

The aerodynamics are also suspect,  we see an uncanny resemblance between the wings on the car and those that have recently been reported stolen from a wind farm in Cornwall. This might go some way to explaining why the car is prone to somersaults and cartwheels at any opportunity  .

Congrats to Anders, Evil and Natan. Enjoyed my first race at GBGPL.

Quallied 4th which I was very pleased with. Fredrik went a tad wide early on and pulled it back but I was closing 30mph quicker by then. Apologies for the knock, all happened a bit quick. That left Sid closing on a virtually stationary me so two knocks for the price of one.
I pushed on in 6th and eventually passed a stationary Natan by which time I was up to 4th. Eventually the inevitable happened and Natan started to close right up, so I made my classic mistake of starting to think hmm how am I going to deal with this whilst negotiating Masta. My spin solved Natan's problem and also let Dan through.
From there on it was very much a solo run although, due to Fredrik's disco (the bane of GPL), I eventually finished 4th.
So very pleased all in all.

I'll definately be back but won't be able to make them all due to issue with Mondays.

Quite close to sneaking yet another lucky win...or are you Ferrari guys playing with me??!!

I knew that the BRM would be at a huge speed disadvantage around Spa and was quite resigned to finishing 6th or 7th.
I had reduced wing settings to almost nothing and added extra pressure in the tyres to reduce drag in an attempt to extract just a little more top end speed, trading off some grip through the corners.
Qualification confirmed my worst fears with Anders, Fredrik, Natan and Tim (Vos) all way ahead of my best time by about 2 secs.
I set 5th very high in the hope of picking up some slipstream and sat on the grid expecting the worst.
A cautious start down to Eau Rouge and 2 cars in front touched. I thought that I was going to become part of their tangle but sailed through and emerged in 3rd spot behind Anders and Natan.
They were about 1.5 secs ahead on the run up to Les Coombs               and I knew that to have any chance of staying in touch I had to be in their wheel tracks before Malmedy.. so the BRM got an absolute thrashing for the next few kilometres.
Exiting Malmedy I was just close enough to get a tow and by the time we got to Stavelot, I was closing  brmm
By the end of the lap I was more than happy with where I was. 3rd place and sat behind two fast cars that could pull me around for the rest of the race.

I sat back just far enough to still have the tow and give me a chance to avoid any "incidents" between the leaders..very comfortable  Grin

Then they went and spoilt it all by getting tangled just after Stavelot!!! I was convinced that Natan's spinning car was going to take me out as well despite the "safety" distance that I had left, but again I swerved through and emerged..in the lead??!!

Magnus was only a second or two back in the Lotus 63, which was a much faster car, and if he got into my slipstream I was a sitting duck. So I pushed hard for a few laps and managed to ease out the time difference.
I knew that Anders Fredrik and Natan all had cars that were about 2 secs+ a lap faster than mine and would surely catch me before the end as there was still about 11 laps to go.
As the laps counted down i began to wonder if I might just pull off a win thanks to people throwing themselves at each other and the scenery??
Then Anders replaced Magnus on my prib display about 9 secs behind....8 laps to go
Too many laps, not a big enough gap Undecided

Sure enough his red Fezza closed up very quickly, especially when he caught my slipstream and there was nothing I could do about it. With 4 laps to go he was just sat behind waiting to use his speed to cruise past, which he did quite comfortably.

Now my only chance of holding second spot or even snatching 1st if Anders made a mistake was to attach a tow rope to that Ferrari and stick in his slipstream.

The next few laps were at 110% of the BRM's and my abilities as I locked on to Anders' gearbox and saw the engine revs higher than they had ever been before on the run down to Masta. I actually had to back off to avoid risking the engine blowing.
Eventually I mad a small mistake... inevitable at the pace I was trying to hold Roll Eyes and Anders escaped to a safe 3 secs gap.
I followed him home in 2nd place, very grateful for the gift of 2nd place Grin when I had expected far less.
Grats to Anders and commiserations to Natan and Fredrik for their misfortune

Also a quick mention for Vos and Al from UKGPL who have made the trip to join us in 69's.

Had the pole position with 6/1000 better time then Natan until the last minute of the practice when he made a fantastic low 3:14  Grin

My start was better then Natans and I had the lead into Eau Rouge.
I was quicker thru the turns and opened up a small gap after everyone but Natans McLaren was much quicker on the straights and he had the tow so at the end of every straight he was all over my rearend.
We kept on like that for a little bit more then one and a half lap.
Then Natan make a try to overtake me on the straight after Stavelot.
I held my raceline to the right, Natan goes to the left to try to take the inside of the next turn.
Suddenly he swings to the right, hits me from behind  and send me off the track with my left rear wheel missing  Angry Shift-R.

Race incidents happens, but the thing that pisses me off is that there where no excuse at all, no sorry, nothing.
During the race I don’t look at chatmessages, it’s disturbing, but I didn’t see anything there  when I looked at it after the race had ended.
And there wasn’t any in the chat after the race and not in VROC.

I expect more when you take out the leader of the race, at least a

Gets going again back in third position behind Magnus and Clive.

One lap later I can pass Magnus that seems to lift off very early for Blanchimont.
Now the hunt for Clive, eight seconds in front of me, starts.

I made it in three laps and can easily pass Clive on the straight down to Blanchimont on lap6.

The last three laps I managed to pull away from Clive little by little and I crossed the finish line  almost four seconds ahead of him.

A couple of late nights with too little sleep lately, so I was not really in the best form to drive.

Still had a decent race in part, avoided the Eau Rouge problems and was even running 2nd for a while but fell back as the quicker cars caught up.

But there was little point in defending against much faster cars and risking accidents so I lifted early and just let them through. If we had been on the last lap I would have defended position more, Anders.     Wink
With several laps to go I didn't want to mess up unnecessarily.

About a lap later I planted it in the fence by the esses anyway and being really tired I simply didn't have the energy to keep going so I bailed...      Tumbleweed...

Sad as it may be, it wasn't the Lotus 63, Clive... it was the 49B. I could just as well have stuck with the 63.
